UMC Summit 2023 Scholarship Application

The United Methodist Church of Summit awards two memorial scholarships of distinction annually.  One scholarship is open to any member of the United Methodist Church of Summit who meets the scholarship qualifications and the second is available to any young woman residing in Summit, NJ with financial need who meets the scholarship qualifications. The annual amount of the scholarship will vary by year.

The scholarships are:

1. The Mildred S. Wyckoff Memorial Scholarship:  This scholarship, provided in memory of Mildred S. Wyckoff, a long-time member of the Summit Community and of UMC Summit, can be awarded to any high school graduating senior who is a member of the United Methodist Church of Summit and who have demonstrated their commitment to UMC Summit’s mission through their involvement in, and contribution to, their school, church, community, and to the world around them. This can be demonstrated in the form of academic achievement, involvement in church attendance, volunteer efforts, school or church projects that are consistent with UMC Summit’s mission. This scholarship is a non-renewable scholarship.

2. The Evelyn M. Welsh Memorial Scholarship:  This scholarship, named in memory of a long-time member of the Summit Community and of UMC Summit, can be awarded to a female high school graduating senior residing in Summit, NJ of financial need who has demonstrated their commitment to, and involvement in, their school, family, house of worship, and community. Financial need can be self-professed, but the UMC Summit Scholarship committee may ask for additional information such as the EFC index from a student’s FAFSA application or other qualifying financial information to confirm financial need.  This scholarship is a non-renewable scholarship.

Note: Recipients of these scholarships are expected to attend UMC Summit’s Education Sunday service (Sunday, June 11, 2023 10:30am) where the recipients will be recognized, and scholarships awarded.

Scholarship applications must be submitted to the above email or mailed and postmarked by 4/30/2023.

(OPTIONAL): Please provide your FAFSA EFC (expected family contribution). Note that UMC Summit may need to follow up with you to formally request this information or other related FAFSA information as part of the financial need evaluation process, but it is optional at this point. If you choose to provide your EFC now, email that information to Natalie Palacio at CYMinister@umcsummit.org
